Furthermore, it contains the general choice of law rule and the rules on qualification or characterization of legal concepts, as well as the provisions on application of foreign (state) law and on public order (ordre public) that impose the limits for the application of foreign law.
The application of foreign law would include such questions as the application of the law of a country with a multiplicity of legal systems, reverse reference or renvoi, reciprocity, retorsion and public order or ordre public, the rules on which are provided in the international private law norms of the Civil Code.
Ordre Public and Directly Applicable Norms
As a concept, ordre public is connected with the fact that, in general, the state imposes principled limits on the applicability of foreign law.
